Hello, I have created this blog to help some of you understand better what is involved in cleaning and sealing a wood deck. In this day and age, wood decks attached to the back of many homes in the Richmond, VA and surrounding areas are a headache and are becoming a problem for many people in this area. What is the problem, you ask? The problem is that the stains and sealants that have been created to protect your wood deck are harder and harder to get off. Without a doubt, and I can tell you this from thirty years of deck cleaning experience, things are not like they used to be.

In the present day, sealants and stains are chemically engineered to last. But, with extra strength by chemical modification, products are nearly impossible to remove without the correct chemicals. Here is a deck in Midlothian, Va that I have cleaned for nearly twenty years. It is an awesome deck and the wood has never needed to be replaced. Here we are using the newly modified stain called Olympic Maximum Cedar Natural-tone.

I know, you've been looking at it and dreading the project for quite a long time...

NASTY...

You forgot what it really looked  like, what it was supposed to look like...

The dreaded large expanse that only a few humans dare to attack...
Little by little it cleans to it's natural beauty...

Looking like a million bucks!

Looks like Daddy is going to be proud!

That is pretty much how the cleaning gets done. Come back and see what it looks like later today. We gave the deck a day to dry, now let's put some stain on it.
