Cleaning your Concrete Aggregate Driveway or Stamped Concrete Driveway or Walkways, Southern Home, Richmond, VA 804-585-8016

Aggregate Driveway Cleaning and Sealing, Stamped Concrete Cleaning and Sealing. Protect your investment by removing mold and mildew stains from your concrete surface and then sealing it with a 30-weight Concrete sealant to provide protection from the elements.

What is the significance of cleaning concrete and sealing it? Well, for one, it makes the surface look clean and new. Secondly, it prevents moisture from seeping into the concrete. That is very important during the winter months when moisture freezes and the expansion of frozen water expands and can cause concrete to crack when water seeps deep into microscopic cracks that happen as concrete settles.

Sealants come in various materials and various grades. The products with the highest sheen have the most protection and are the strongest and most visually appealing and they generally are petroleum-based.

The other choice is to use an Acrylic sealant. Acrylics seal the pores of the cement very well. But, the finish looks duller in appearance.

This is a small driveway with an Aggregate Concrete finish. You can see me cleaning the concrete in the first picture using a swirling-headed Concrete-cleaning tip, or a Turbo Tip. In the subsequent pictures, I have already cleaned the driveway. And, I am applying the sealant with a brush and roller. I use a thick roller pad, more than a 1-inch nap thickness, and I roll the product out. The brush is mostly for applying sealant where the drive meets the garage concrete.

This product should last three years in a moderate Climate. There are other well respected brands- Sonneborn, is well respected product that has been available in Richmond, Virginia for many years. Eagle has replaced some of the older products.

### Aggregate Concrete Sealants: Give Your Concrete a Little TLC

When it comes to keeping that gravel-and-stone-filled concrete looking good, aggregate concrete sealants are your best friend. These bad boys do a great job of jazzing up the look of your concrete and keeping it safe from damage and stains. Here are some things you might want to think about when picking a sealer:

#### Things to Ponder

**Traffic**: How much foot traffic is the area going to get? If it's a high-traffic zone, you’ll need a sealer that can take the wear and tear.

**Sun Exposure**: Is the area basking in full sun? Then look for a sealer that’s UV- or fade-resistant.

**Climate**: Consider the local weather – rain, ice, wind, and those crazy temperature changes.

**Application**: Would you rather go with a water-based sealer that’s usually easier to apply, or a solvent-based one?

**Compatibility**: Make sure the sealer you pick plays well with the type of concrete you've got.

#### Some Top Picks for Aggregate Concrete Sealants

**Acrylic Concrete Sealer**: Great for protecting against freeze/thaw cycles, mold, and mildew.

**Eagle Gloss Coat**: A high-gloss, solvent-based acrylic sealer that’ll make your exposed pea gravel look snazzy.

**Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500**: This penetrating sealer repels water and salt, and cuts down on mold, mildew, and efflorescence.

**Dulux Avista Exposed Aggregate Sealer**: A clear coating you can use on both new and old exposed aggregate surfaces.

**Polyurethane Sealer**: This thick sealer is tough against chemicals and abrasion.

By mulling over these factors and choosing the right sealer, you’ll keep your concrete surfaces looking sharp and protected. Need a hand with sealing your concrete?
